Practice Information

Consultations

Most consultations take 10-15 minutes. If you think you will need longer (e.g. if you have several problems to discuss or you need a full medical) please advise our receptionist so that a longer appointment can be arranged. This will help your doctor to make full use of your appointment and to minimise waiting times. Although there is a higher fee for a longer consultation, the Medicare rebate is also larger so the gap payment is the same.

Please arrive approximately 15 minutes earlier if you are a new patient so that the administration staff can enter your details into our system before your appointment.

You can download our new patient form if you wish    MMC- New Patient Form  and bring this in filled out to save time.

Please ensure that you bring your current Medicare card and any pension card or health care card that you may have.

Fees

Fees are payable at the time of consultation. Payment can be made with all cards, cash or cheque. We also offer another payment option for our convenience. This involves our submitting your account directly to Medicare. After payment you rebate will then be automatically deposited into your chosen bank account within 2 working days. This option saves you the need to go to Medicare for your rebate and requires you to register your chosen BSB and bank account numbers on your file. at MMC. This information is kept strictly confidential. Your fee is comprehensive and includes not only the doctor’s time but also extra services which may be needed.  This includes correspondence and administrative requirements of government and other organisations and telephone calls. Your doctor can tell you the costs of any extra tests suggested. Eg; ECG’s, audiograms.

Our fees are structured to ensure that the gap between our fees and the Medicare rebate you receive is kept within your means.  If our fees are likely to cause financial difficulty let your doctor or the receptionist know.

Bulk billing: Our surgery bulk bills all patients under the age of 16 years. We also have a discount rate for patients with a valid HCC.

After Hours Services

Mittagong Medical Centre participates in a roster of local GP’s to provide after-hours medical care all year round. This service includes

1.  A doctor on call for advice and or visit outside normal surgery hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
2.  A second doctor is also available at an After-Hours Clinic  on weekends and public holidays., also 365 days a year.

The clinic is located at 21 Jude St, Bowral (opposite Bowral Hospital) and is open from:

3-5pm Saturdays
10-12pm and 3-5pm on Sundays and Public Holidays

Please ring 4861 6433 to access the on call doctor outside normal practice hours or go to the clinic where appointments are not necessary.

Appointments

Appointments can be made in person, by phone or also now by an online booking service. We have implemented an on-line booking system for your convenience. We understand that your time is valuable however sometimes your doctor may be delayed by an emergency or unexpected long consultation. If waiting is inconvenient we recommend that you ring 15-30 minutes prior to your appointment to confirm your consultation.

For continuity of care please request your preferred GP when making an appointment or alternatively with the first doctor available.

If you need a long appointment or a specific service such as a pre-employment or insurance medical, please advise the reception staff when you are booking your appointment.

Appointments can be arranged with the doctor of your choice or alternatively with the first available doctor.

There are always some appointments allocated to emergency or walk-in consultations. You may not be able to see your preferred GP under these circumstances.

Test Results

Results and Phone Calls

Results are confidential and cannot be given over the phone. You must book an appointment in order for us to give out the results of your tests. This is to ensure that accurate results are given to the right patient by a professional medical staff member.

Please allow at least 2 days for pathology and radiology results to be processed and checked by your doctor. Please note it is the patient’s responsibility to make an appointment to discuss any test results with a doctor.

If patients wish to speak to their doctor and the doctor is unavailable, our experienced reception staff will be happy to take your details in a message and pass this on, as soon as possible. Either the reception staff or doctor will return the call according to the urgency of the request.

Please note that your privacy and our Practice policy prevents us from discussing your results over the phone. For that reason, you will need an appointment.

Home / Hospital / Nursing Home Visits

Home visits are only available for existing patients of this surgery and we ask you to limit requests for visits to occasions when you are  genuinely unable to attend the surgery due to physical incapacity.

A number of GP’s visit the local nursing homes and also  do regular scheduled visits to their patients if they have a condition making attendance at the surgery difficult.

Emergencies

Please inform our receptionist if you have a condition that requires urgent attention to enable appropriate arrangements to be made.

Urgent medical problems will always be dealt with promptly. A treatment room is available for your comfort and privacy.

If you feel you have a life threatening emergency you should ring 000 or ring 112 from mobiles.

Confidentiality

Your medical record is a confidential document. It is the policy of this practice to maintain security of personal health information at all times. Your doctor may also be required to forward information about your medical condition or history to other health care providers. You will always be consulted before your doctor shares your record with another health facility, eg a specialist or hospital.

Patient Privacy
Mittagong Medical Centre is committed to maintaining the confidentiality of your personal health information. In accordance with the Privacy Act (1988) information about persons aged 16 years and over cannot be divulged to a third party without that  person’s permission. Patients can assist by advising updated details to your GP or reception staff. We abide by the ten National Privacy Principles of the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner which are available to be viewed on this website.
