Practice information
Welcome, if you have any questions after reading this please speak to our reception staff who will be happy to assist you.
- We encourage you to wear a mask at our practice, especially if you have a sore throat, cough, runny nose, headache or fever.
- If you have any symptoms of COVID-19 (body aches, sore throat, cough, runny nose, headache, diarrhoea) you must do a Rapid Antigen Test for COVID-19 prior to your appointment. If your test is positive you can book a telehealth appointment.
Our practice provides a comprehensive array of vaccines, tailored to your needs. We encourage you to book an appointment with your GP to ensure you receive all the recommended vaccinations.
We currently have:
- Flu vaccines for all ages (starting at 6 months of age)
- COVID-19 vaccines
- Childhood vaccines
- Shingles and pneumococcal vaccines
- Convenient parking
- Disabled parking, full wheelchair access, and disabled toilet available.
- Patient toilet with a baby change room available.
- Please inform our receptionist if you have a condition that requires urgent attention to enable appropriate arrangements to be made.
Urgent medical problems will be dealt with promptly. - If you have a life-threatening emergency please ring 000, or call 112 from mobiles.
- We ask that all new patients book a long consultation (30 minutes) with us so that we can carefully review your medical history and address your health needs.
- Please arrive 10 minutes before your appointment so that the administration staff can enter your details into our system before your appointment.
On arrival you will be asked to complete our ‘New patient form’, or alternatively you can download form here and bring this in pre-filled.
- Our practice is by appointment only.
- Bookings can be made in person, by phone or online (book now).
- Telehealth appointments can be booked by calling the practice on 48711500
- Standard consultations are 15 minutes.
- Longer consultation (i.e. more than one issue or a complex issue) are 30 minutes.
- Walk-in appointments for medical emergencies will always be available
- You need an appointment with your GP to get a script. This is so that your doctor can review your medical history, check whether any monitoring is required (e.g. blood pressure checks, blood tests), and ensure that the prescription is appropriate.
- You can either book a face-to-face or a telehealth consultation to obtain a script, and we can send the script to your phone, to the pharmacy or you can pick it up at the practice.
- Test results are reviewed throughout the day by our doctors. You will be contacted by SMS if your doctor needs to discuss any results with you.
- You must book an appointment to discuss your results with your doctor. This is to ensure accurate results are given and that results remain confidential.
- Please allow at least two days for pathology and radiology results to be processed and checked by your doctor.
- We send our patients SMS messages about:
- Appointment reminders – this will be sent 24 hours before your scheduled appointment.
- Test results – you will be advised to book a consultation with your GP to discuss test results. We will not divulge any sensitive information via text.
- Reminders e.g. Prolia injection due.
- Preventative health reminders e.g. cervical screening due.
- If you would like to opt out of these reminders please chat to our reception staff.
- As a courtesy to the doctors and other patients if you are unable to attend your appointment please cancel with as much notice as possible. Patients who fail to attend, or who give less than 3 hours notice to cancel their appointment will incur a cancellation fee.
- The doctors at Mittagong Medical Centre participate in a roster of local GP’s who provide after hour medical care all year round.
- Please ring 4861 6433 to access the on-call doctor outside of normal practice hours or visit the After Hours Clinic located at 21 Jude St, Bowral (opposite Bowral Hospital) on weekends and public holidays (3-5pm Saturdays, 10-12pm and 3-5pm Sundays).
- Our GPs provide home visits if necessary at a standard fee. We ask you to limit requests for home visits to occasions when you are genuinely unable to attend the surgery due to physical incapacity.
- Dr. Richard Hanbury and Dr. Aaron Chan care for patients at multiple local nursing homes. Please speak to reception for further information.
- Your medical record is a confidential document. In line with National Privacy Principles it is the policy of this practice to maintain security of personal health records at all times. View our complete Privacy Policy here.

We always welcome feedback from any of our patients, just ask our administration team for a feedback form or complaint form. Alternatively the NSW Health Care Complaints Commission can be contacted on 1800 043 159.
- Phone calls: our practice can be contacted by phone on 48711500 between the hours of 8:30am and 5pm Monday to Friday, and between 8:30am to 12pm on Saturdays. You cannot leave a message at other times.
- Emails: Please note that appointments and urgent enquiries cannot be dealt with via email. Our administration team will endeavour to respond to email correspondence within 48 hours.
